Lee Hok Peng
Hok Peng is the founder of Chapter One and has been the main driving force for the school since its inception. A former corporate executive, Hok Peng left a high-flying career in the banking industry to pursue her calling – to help children master Chinese confidently.

With years of experience as a tutor, Hok Peng has a keen understanding of the challenges and common problems Singaporean children face in learning Chinese. Her belief that children need encouragement and care from both parents and teachers in order to excel has carried through in her teaching methods at the school. Chapter One has created a caring and nurturing learning environment for children, with proven results. Students are motivated and teachers work closely with parents to incorporate learning in the home environment.

Hok Peng is a graduate from Fudan Uinversity, Shanghai, one of the top five universities in China and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Language and Culture, majoring in Teaching Chinese Language and Applied Linguistics. She is also a graduate of National University of Singapore (NUS) and has a Diploma in Chinese Translation.
 
Koh Seng Hwang, Phyllis
Phyllis Koh, the Managing Director of Chapter One graduated from NUS with a BSc degree. She holds a MSc in Early Childhood Education from the prestigious University of Wheelock (Boston) and attended the Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching course at NIE. She has been managing a kindergarten, childcare centre and student care centre over the past 9 years and has more than 10 years of teaching experience.She was nominated as SUPER Teacher in 2007 and OUTSTANDING teacher in 2010.

As an educator as well as a mother to 3 children, Phyllis believes wholeheartedly that the importance of an outstanding Chinese Language programme not only provides academic excellence, it is also one that is creative and engages the mind and interest towards a positive learning disposition.
 
Lin Xiao Yan
“I believe that every child, no matter their level of ability, can learn and the teacher’s role is to help them doing their best and let them shine. Just like a gardener, our role is to plant and nuture.”

Xiao Yan is one of Chapter One’s pioneer teachers and a partner of the school. Graduating from the Min Hou Teacher Training College in Fujian, China, she taught children at the primary school level in China for almost 10 years, achieving outstanding teaching recognitions in the process. With close to 25 years of experience teaching in both primary and secondary school levels in Singapore and China, Xiao Yan is one of Chapter One’s top teachers.

She is also instrumental in developing effective material for Chapter One. Prior to joining the teaching profession, she was an editor for an online learning portal as well as a writer for primary school assessments. Drawing upon her vast experience, Xiao Yan is able to identify critical learning issues common in children and customise teaching material to help children in those areas.
 
Zhang Hong
“ To the children, I am their teacher and their friend, and they always share their joy and sadness with me. ”

Graduating from Liaoning Teachers’ University, Zhang Hong has had 12 years of experience teaching in Secondary Schools in Liaoning, China.

Since 2002, Zhang Hong has been a teacher in Singapore, teaching both primary and secondary level students at a language centre. Before joining the Chapter One family in 2008, Zhang Hong worked at the Ministry of Education (MOE) where she taught at a local secondary school.

Zhang Hong adds strength to the team in Chapter One and teaches higher primary and secondary level students. Her professionalism and knowledge in local experience contributes to our curriculum.
 
Hu Jing Yun
One of our pioneer teachers, Jing Yun has 10 years of experience teaching in local primary schools as well as delivering enrichment classes in government schools and language centres. She specialises in primary school curriculum, including oral and composition.

Jing Yun is the most artistic teacher in Chapter One, and has strong interest in Chinese painting and calligraphy. She is a friendly teacher who also pushes her students to achieve independence. 

Jing Yun is a graduate from Hubei Broadcasting and Television University, China.
 
Zhang Li
A humorous teacher who always brings laughter to her class, Zhang Li has been with the Chapter One team since 2007. Zhang Li’s key strength is in teaching oral and composition class and under her expert guidance, many weaker students have become independent and confident in their spoken and written skills.

Zhang Li graduated from Northeast Teachers University and taught 2 years in China before moving to Singapore. She has 3 years of experience teaching local children in pre-school, primary and secondary level.
 
Chen Xiao Xia
“Nothing is more rewarding than watching my students taking incremental steps every lesson. They do me proud.”

Xiao Xia is known to students and parents of Chapter One as a caring mother figure. She motivates children to learn with lots of encouragement.

Xiao Xia obtained a diploma with Fujian Nong Lin University and moved to Singapore in    joined Chapter One in 2006. She has 10 years of local teaching experience.
